This high-flow electric water pump that has been designed and manufactured specifically for automotive cooling systems, and modified for use with your classic mini cooling system. These are true OEM automotive grade pumps- designed for the typical long duty cycle and robustness that is expected by automotive manufacturers This kit offered by MMD is designed specifically for the A-series engine in the mini, but will fit other vehicles with 1 inch coolant pipe diameter - or more if you are willing to spend some time making adaptors. This type of centrifugal electric water pump is not a new idea; Worldwide, several different pump manufactures offer similar units to MMD - and have been tried by enthusiasts with varying degrees of success on many road-legal race minis - including the majority of the 'miglia' racers. Note that we mentioned 'varying degrees of success'... Whilst these electric pumps all look 'similar' at first glance, there can be significant differences in flow potential for even visually identical pumps. Take a look at the chart below (or click here ) to see manufacturers flow specifications from several different pumps for evidence of this - and note that the MMD pump has the highest rating of all the comparative units. Along with this high flow this pump, we will also supply two CNC machined alloy hose adaptors to allow this pump to be linked up to the 1" diameter of the standard mini coolant system. Don't let the smaller diameter of the MMD pump hose connections fool you into thinking this pump is restricted in its flow capability - if this can't keep your A-series cool, then you have a serious problem! Also included is an automotive-grade connector, colour-coded to avoid mistakenly connecting the pump incorrectly. This pump has been proven on two minis to date (one turbocharged 5-port, one turbocharged 16v) with flawless success. It was found that the MMD unit out performed the standard mechanical (impeller) pump, and several electric pumps from other suppliers. The 5-port actually retained the side-mounted radiator, and would overheat if left idling. Once the MMD pump was used, the overheating problem was eliminated. In summary - we are confident this pump will more than suit your cooling needs. It should be pointed out that a moderate level of mechanical experience is needed to install these pumps. Also note, that if it is desired to retain the mechanical cooling fan, then the impeller ideally needs to be removed from the (factory) mechanical water pump. These are being offered at a special introductory price of £120 which includes fully insured shipping. Dave Coxon aka TurboDave |
